I didn’t know what I was getting into when I picked this class, I had no clue what the class was about. I guess I never realized or thought about what was entailed in perception. I didn’t realize it was more of a science based course. It was very interesting the different concepts and how our senses are involved in our perception. Most of us don’t put much thought into our senses and we take them for granted. We really should be more interested in how every aspect of how our body and senses work as well as what is involved and this class defiantly helped us understand more about our bodies and what we are able to do. I was surprised about the chapter on vision and the different parts of the eye and diseases of the eye; I didn’t think they had anything to do with perception. I think everyone should take this course because it opens our eyes to our body and all its capable of.
I found the chapter on color fascinating. I would never have thought that wavelengths were involved with perceiving colors. I also thought it was interesting that it’s called saturation when white is added to colors. Being able to perceive color helps us categorize things as well as noticed things more quickly. Again, color is something most of us take for granted. It is crucial for us to understand how much color effects our lives and what it would be like not to see color like people who are color blind or just not have color at all. A great example for us to understand what it’s like to not have color or limited color is the movie Pleasantville.
