Wire Taps

I could not believe that the police hire blind people to conduct wire taps, after reading that I was a little taken back. After reading it and looking more into it, I understand why! People who are blind have a heightened sense of hearing so they can detect things better then someone who can see. This is amazing how our senses pick up better when one sense is lost. These people who do the wire tapping must have a sense of fulfillment because they are helping in a way that someone else cant. I feel as if this job would be very awarding and would totally make the person feel special and appreciated.

  1. It has to be a very rewarding feeling. People can get extremely down when a sense is lost, especially when they had it for years and it was taken away from them. The best thing about this job is that it isn't something stupid or a job they just give away. This job is something that can solve cases and bring people justice. It makes me happy that these people don't feel left out and can actually make a difference in the world.

  2. Gina,
I find it very interesting and smart to hire visually impaired people to conduct wire taps since their sense of hearing is stronger and able to discriminate different sounds from one another. A visually impaired person might be able to hear various background noises more distinctly and decode more information about where the person is calling from. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses and it is great to see that an impairment or disability does not necessarily define a person or limit their options in life.
    Good post.

  3. I showed this post to a friend's mom who is deaf. She began to tell me how she gets the same heightened senses, but when it comes to touch. She said its hard to sleep at night because anytime someone in her house takes a step, she is awoken by the vibrations in the floor. I know no hearing person can do this so its really awesome to really know someone that may not be blind, but has a similar experience with heightened senses!
