Prosopagnosia

Prosopagnosia, also known as face blindness, is a condition of the brain where it affects the ability to recognize faces. This affects many people in the United States, yet most people don't even know what it is. When we learned about face blindness in class, I wanted to learn more and understand why this happens. I googled a face blindness test to see if it was really difficult to determine celebrities faces, and it is. I received a 50% on the test, which isn't good. There were 30 faces total, but I wasn't familiar with most of them. They showed some older people who I didn't recognize the name so I would select the "didn't know" option. Out of the 14 faces I did know I only got 7 right. I highly doubt I have face blindness, but it was interesting seeing how difficult it was to recognize people who I watch all the time in movies. There can be some things that happen in life that can cause face blindness, such as a stroke, brain injury, or some diseases. Face blindness can also be genetical passed down, but this is rare. If you start to have trouble recognizing family members or close friends than this would be a big sign that you could be developing face blindness. If someone starts to develop symptoms of prosopagnosia, than they should go see their doctor to see if this is the condition that is affecting their brain. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a fix to this condition, but people who do have it seem to make it work for them.
