I recently found this project that helps restore some sight to people who suffer from retinal diseases. The video describes the process of how the artificial retina "Argus II" works. Glasses that are worn by the subject capture a video of the surroundings which is then transmitted into a signal that the retinal transplant can understand. This signal is then transformed into pulses that can travel down the Optic nerve and the understood by the brain as a visual pattern. Subjects learn to understand the visual patterns. I thought that the way the artificial retina works is incredibly efficient and beneficial to the user.
The psychology of Perception involves the interaction of our senses and our conscious mind. Perception is involved in every aspect of our lives as we make decisions and judgments based on what we experience. If you study diligently you will leave this course with a broad understanding of sensation and perception. From this general understanding you will be able to further investigate areas of interest by means of literature review and research on specific topics.
