McGurk Effect

While discussing the McGurk Effect in class, I thought it was really interesting how sound can alter your perceived vision. I went home and searched videos on youtube and came across some pretty neat videos. For instance, I watched a video where a black circle flashed once on the screen very quickly and along with that there were two quick beeps, due to the 2 beeps it caused you to believe you saw the circle flash twice, when in reality it only flashed once. The sound led you to believe you saw something that you in fact did not. Also, you will think that a tone is ascending and getting higher and higher if it is paired with an image (such as a ball going up a set of stairs) that is going higher and higher. Our ears play tricks on us due to what we are seeing and I think that is a pretty crazy concept.
