Times Square- depth perception

One of my favorite places to visit- especially around this time of the year- is New York City. Here is an image of Times square and there is a lot going on here. We notice the taxi in the foreground of the picture and the lion king billboard in the back of the 2D image. But how are we able to tell that the Lion King billboard is farther away from the taxi? Depth perception allows us to judge the spatial distances between the objects in this image. When looking at 2D images, the viewer tends to use pictorial cues in order to recognize depth in a particular image like the one above.  We know that the billboard on the side of the entire building is a lot bigger than the size of the taxi based on our knowledge of the actual size of the two objects.
