While we were reading about the eye, I started to wonder different ways that people could loss there vision. One of the ways that I found was interesting was glaucoma. It is a significant cause of blindness in the US. It is the most common cause for blindness among black Americans. The most common form of glaucoma is primary open angle glaucoma. It is a chronic slowly progressive disorder. It leads to damage of the optic nerve. The optic nerve is the nerve that carries the visual info for the eye to the brain. Glaucoma is increased fluid pressure inside the eye. The increased pressure causes compression of the retina and the optic nerve which can in the end lead to nerve damage. Glaucoma can cause partial vision loss and a chance of blindness as a result.
